Dave Granlund with the most generic cartoon: A terror attack happened! Where? America. But where in america?
At least Granlund drew his. I swear this is photoshop.

He seems oddly happy to be in prison. At least he’s adjusting nicely; check it out, he’s already got some prison tattoos.
What, are valor and freedom dead? Can ideals ever truly die?
Here’s a (certainly inadvertent) look at the mindset of conservatives. Memorial Day is a Patriotic Holiday, which means it’s time to throw the American flag onto everything (that isn’t already covered in it) and weep even harder during country songs about how great it is to be an American and talk about how we’re the greatest nation in the history of ever, and then mumble a few lines about those who made the ultimate sacrifice to help keep this nation free.
Conservatives love to talk about how they love the military and those who serve in the abstract, but when it comes time to recognize or help the actual people who serve? Well, the Onion may be satire, but the satire is based in reality. It’s like the second-tier of Chickenhawk Syndrome (throw a lot of support behind a war, but don’t actually enlist and help fight it).
Don’t expect a lot of stories or tributes dedicated to actual soldiers, sailors, marines, whatever in the next week. Expect more like this, vague testaments to ‘those who served,’ with ‘those who served’ being an amorphous idea; blank-faced mannequins in uniform with no personality, no past, and no needs or desires once their service is done.
“Remember their names”? Bitch, you won’t even acknowledge that these are actual people.
EDIT: And let me add, the mainstream media will pull this shit as well. Next Monday expect to see a flag icon on the top of your local newspaper, maybe a ‘Happy Memorial Day’ message, and that’s it.
Hey, it’s just like that Onion article. Except I don’t think Granlund is being satirical here so much as scare-mongering.
Another cartoon trying to pass George Clooney off as just another camerawhore, another cartoon ignoring the fact that he has been talking about Darfur for years, when even the media wouldn’t notice it. Hell, Clooney’s Wikipedia page has a section devoted to his activism on Darfur.
