And then the gun store owner called the police and alerted them to a potential mass-murderer. Building a case against the man and arresting him before he was able to harm anyone was fairly simple, since the man trying to buy gasoline at a gun store is obviously incredibly stupid.
Thus, because a psychopath was unable to acquire a firearm, no one was harmed.
