Mr. Priggee, I am going to let you in on a secret: words mean things.
Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a ‘slut’ and a ‘prostitute’ because he thinks she is oversexed, loose, and, in short, a whore. The issue is not that he used such blunt words to express himself, but that his meaning behind them was clear. His intent was clear. He intended to sidestep her argument and instead engage in character assassination, which he did in his own particular fashion. Had he tried to mimic Christopher Hitchens’ loquaciousness or Mark Twain’s wit and verve, the meaning of his words would have remained unchanged.
He was attacking Sandra Fluke. That is what he should have apologized for (and no, I don’t believe he has; not sincerely).
